The Vice President of Nigeria, Prof. Yemi Osibanjo has taken over the running of affairs of the country as President Buhari has embarked on a two-month vacation.
Osibanjo is expected to temporarily run the office of the president while president Buhari in his absence.
The president flew to the United Arab Emirates last night, from New York where he attended the conference on Nuclear talks.
The vice president stated in a statement released from his office that the president will spend two months in the Gulf nation, and has promised to Focus on Energy Crisis during his two-month temporary rule.
Speaking on the vacation, the president's spokesperson said:
‘You know the past ten months has been very very tough on the president. Aside from meeting an empty treasury, the President also had to deal with a systematic decay of everything that makes up this country. So where Nigerians are bothered about things not working right, or at all, the President spends all night thinking about solutions and this is why he needs a break.’
He added:
‘Yes, you know the system is designed to cover for situations like this. The Vice President, who has been mandated to focus on the current energy crisis, will be in charge until the President’s return.’
