Following the circulation of reports that Zimbabwe's president Mugabe was closing his eyes while he listened as Japanese prime minister Shinzo Abe pledge financial assistance, the Information minister, Christopher Mushohwe  has defended the president by saying head in agreement.appeared to be snoozing.
According to a statement released by Mushohwe, the reports that the 92-year-old president had slept off during a press conference with Abe in Tokyo last week, was malicious.
He however claimed that Mugabe was rather, nodding in agreement and was not dozing off during the press conference where Abe was pledging his support.
On the claims that Mugabe was sleeping, Mushohwe said:
"The motive was to injure and damage the reputation of our president in a big way."
Meanwhile, Mugabe's official photographer Joseph Nyambuya had earlier told Zimbabwean state media, that when he closes his eyes, he is actually "deepening his concentration".
According to Press watchdog, "The government has found it necessary to release a statement denying Mugabe was snoozing."
